There has been a recent update in drop changes, as you can see. The reasoning behind the changing in this situation --- is to even the playing field for the future, and for the present.
We feel as if everyone can have similar gear, and be able to fight on a fair field, everyone would feel things were much more reasonable. This is a server for fighting, and has always been mentioned as one.
Doing this only puts people on a somewhat equal level, and I've always looked at Helbreath as not a MMORPG, but a RTS (Or RTT, sort of), for the sole reason it takes strategy to win, and be successful.
For those who believe this will be the cause of balance issues, well, we can always work harder into fixing those also.

Of course we know that some of you don't like the changes that have been made.
For those who like to hunt, well, you won't have to worry about getting nothing again.
There was a guy who hunted 285,000 Ettins and didn't get one good armor, nor a GBH. Which we feel just leaves it up to sole luck, not persistence.
